What started as a rhetorical proposal to the KGAF ’24 team – a vision for an 8-foot metal sculpture – became a real-world adventure. Transforming an ambitious vision into a towering piece of art wasn't a smooth ride. Every step, from procuring materials to installation, presented its own challenges, and learnings. The purpose of this article is merely to punctuate the above.
Our first hurdle came when materials arrived late and incomplete. Thinking on our feet, we broke the project into smaller, more manageable tasks. Each team member took ownership of a specific area, and by delegating effectively, we kept the project moving forward.
While we were all artistically inclined, metalworking wasn't exactly our forte. Thankfully, our professors became valuable mentors, offering guidance and expertise throughout the process. We also embraced the challenge, diving headfirst into online tutorials and self-learning resources. This hands-on approach equipped us with the skills needed to manipulate raw materials into a cohesive sculpture.
This project was more than creating art; it was a crash course in real-world challenges. From material fiascos to mastering new techniques, each obstacle fostered teamwork, compromise, and a newfound appreciation for efficiency. We learned to adapt, problem-solve, and leverage each other's strengths – valuable lessons that extend far beyond the art studio.
Seeing our creation become a part of the vibrant Kala Ghoda Arts Festival was a truly rewarding experience: it was a testament to our ability to overcome hurdles and grow as a team.
Being students of RV University, assured of their unwavering support and guidance, we are incredibly grateful to them for giving us the opportunity of such a transformative journey.
